About Bryan

I’m just a man who the dude down the street describes as the guy who has lost his mind. Probably true.

I’ve been staying home with my four little ones – Dylan, Nicole, Tony, and Faith – since Fall ’05 (which has rapidly affected the losing of my marbles). I was working still for a few months before then, but that was a disaster. The kids wanted much more of my attention than I could offer working at home (and, we only had 2 at home then). My wife and I didn’t want to put the kiddos in daycare and I made much less money than my wife. So, home was the choice for me. I love it and the kids love it (most of the time).

Starting October 2008, we became a homeschooling family just to add to the madness and mayhem of our household. Relaxed. Old School. Unschooled. Child Directed. You pick the label, but the kiddos move at their own pace through their education. Every once and awhile there is need for a hot stick in the eye, but usually the kids’ desire to learn is much greater than I can keep up with. We follow the Sonlight & Ambleside curriculums loosely. They offer some great books – many of them classics.  But, otherwise, I’m watching and listening for things that interest them and providing means for them to learn more about their own endeavors. They are curious creatures by nature. I like to feed this natural desire.

Personally, I’m pretty random. I love reading ideas on faith, health, sailing, cycling, child-rearing, and anybody who is pushing the envelope to make the world a better place. Often, you can find me entrenched in some abstract subject matter until I figure it out, which is immediately followed by a quiet celebrate including a great movie and a glass of wine. Of course, with my sweet wife at my side.

My wife, Rachel, has provided some of the greatest moments in my life. We have shared fourteen years together to date and look forward to many more years ahead. While not an easy journey, we’ve worked together every step of the way. As you might imagine, she is one of the most patient people I know.
